The Cycle of abuse

Trauma Therapy for Abuse Survivors

Trauma Therapy for Abuse Survivors

Many abuse survivors experience a repeating cycle of abuse, which can make it difficult to recognise unhealthy patterns. This cycle often includes:

  1. Tension Building: Feeling on edge, anxious, or fearful of the abuser’s reactions.
  2. Incident of Abuse: Experiencing emotional, physical, or sexual harm.
  3. Reconciliation or “Honeymoon” Phase: The abuser may apologise, make promises, or show affection, creating confusion.
  4. Calm Phase: Things seem stable, but underlying tension begins to build again, restarting the cycle.

How Trauma Therapy Can Help You Break the Cycle

Recognising this cycle is a critical first step in reclaiming control over your life. Through trauma therapy, Tara helps clients break the cycle by safely processing the emotional and psychological impact of abuse, developing healthy boundaries, and building coping strategies. This work supports recovery from C-PTSD, PTSD, anxiety, and depression, while also restoring self-esteem, confidence, and emotional resilience, allowing survivors to regain control, empowerment, and lasting emotional wellbeing.

Recognising this cycle of abuse can be the first step toward healing, reclaiming control, and breaking patterns.
